Please see the links below to sign up to volunteer at champs and for the team banquet. We have 60 swimmers going to champs, which is outstanding, so we should be able to fill the timer and announcer slots easily. Please see the announcer job description below. Also, please sign up for the team banquet. We need to get an accurate head count for our food orders.

Announcer
o Primary outcome: Clear communication into the facility of the current event / heat and the communication of other announcements as necessary.
o Make announcements as necessary or directed.
o Announcer for the pool area and any swimmer camp areas involved in the particular location. At OU, this may involve the Grover Gym. When hosted at a YMCA, your team may need to have several announcers to cover multiple swimmer camp locations.
o Make no announcements between when the swimmers are “stepping up” (long whistle)until the start of a race.
o You may be asked to use Twitter to send a message at the beginning of each event. It should be straightforward, such as “Event 2 just started in the pool.” On the day with the bullpen, a SECOND Twitter message should match the announcement, such as “Event 5 — Heats 1 to 5 should now report to the bullpen.” The announcer should be able to accomplish this task with the laptop used to “Get Times” as described below. Should we be in a situation with no network connectivity, they may need to use a smart phone. The meet director will have the password for the SEOWV twitter account.
o The announcer will assist with calling relay races to behind the blocks at appropriate times. They should have no more than three races behind the blocks. Other swimmers should collect away from the blocks end of the pool.
o At the final heat of each race, look for swimmers who might break the league record. Provide compelling commentary and note if the final display board times broke the record.
o Results announcements are made to the spectators. Any league records broken should be played-up to the spectators.
o “Quiet for the start” may need to be announced when the swimmers behind the blocks become too loud. Seek your cue from the starter or the meet referee.
o Consider having the heat start times printed in the meet program and skipping the message board. This may be more important if we have to use the Grover Gym to house camp. In that case the swimmers will not be able to see the message board anyhow. If we don’t print heat start times, then we need to get announcements to the Grover Gym.
o As an alternative to heat start times, we may have a second announcer in the Grover Gym. They would take input from the pool announcer and call heats to the blocks as necessary.
o Announcer may also be asked to utilize a computer and do the “get times” activity in Meet Manager. If possible, the ability to adjust a swimmer from one heat to another prior to doing “get times” would be exceptional support. It may also be necessary to mark a swimmer as a DQ, in case the DQ comes in too late for the timing console to make the entry.
